On-the-Road Camera Storage

We live and breathe camera storage. It is what we do. It’s how we pay the bills. It’s how we’re able to go on long extended trips across the continental United States. It is something that’s absolutely ingrained into our day-in and day-out. Next to our actual photographic equipment, the place cameras are taken out, and put away, see the same amount, if not more, day-to-day handling. Naturally, we place a huge importance on our camera storage and transport solution.

We ran the gamut. We bought, quite literally, countless photography related backpacks. We got the ones that make you look like the nerdiest of camera hobbyists. We got a bunch of the trendiest city slicker/coffee-shop-hang-out bags that aren’t suppose to scream out ‘THERE’S EXPENSIVE CAMERA GEAR IN THIS BAG’. We bought into the marketing from the multitudes of outdoor enthusiasts camera backpack companies. We did, eventually, find an outdoor camera backpack we love, but that’s another story for another day.

The camera storage solution we finally settled on was the one we fought the longest to get. It’s also the one we’re the most happy with. It’s the Pelican 1535 Air.

It ticks all our boxes. It’s incredibly rugged, waterproof, dust proof, can be a carry-on for air travel, and, most importantly, it’s the easiest to access gear as quick and as efficiently as possible.

We actually own two since we both run our own separate photography businesses. On the days that we both have shoots, having a separate case goes a long way.

When we do hit the road with our truck, we consolidate all our gear into one roller. It becomes quite the process to whittle down so much gear into one case.

Two camera bodies with lenses attached, multiple lens options, a plethora of batteries, lens filters, lens cleaners, lens wipes, and all kinds of miscellaneous needed camera bits and bobs all cram wonderfully into the 1535 Air.

The wheels were designed for ease of rolling around airport terminals, but in our experience, they’ve become instrumental in quick access to our camera gear. The wheels act as a make shift drawer system on top of our custom-made storage drawers.

Grab the handle, roll it towards you, pop the two latches, and we’re off to the outdoor races!
